-: Finishing Materials (Plaster of Paris):-
  • POP means plaster of paris. It is obtained from gypsum which is a naturally occurring material. When gypsum is heated to a certain temperature, water contain from it removed leaving behind a very fine powder of plaster of paris.
Properties:
i. When water is added in this powder, it sets immediately.
ii. Hence during plastering work to increase the initial setting time certain salts, some burnt ash and fine sand is added.
iii. It makes good plastic mass with water.
iv. It is thermal resistance.
v. It is water proof.
vi. It can molded in any shape.
Uses:
i. When water is added into it, it set immediately and get strength this property is utilized in making moulds and casting.
ii. It used to decoration purpose.
iii. It used for bridge construction.
iv. In medical field it used to setting bones.
v. It used to wall plastering.
vi. It used for making structural tiles.
What are plaster of paris finishing boards?
  • These are large sheets of POP faced on both sides with stout paper as reinforcement. Plaster boards are mad by mixing gypsum plaster with fine cinders or wood chips and sufficient water to form a thin consistency.
  • They are most economical and easy to work due to light in weight. Though the plaster forms best covering on external walls but the use of plastering is not favored due to the following reasons:
a. Plaster does not stick well to wood work.
b. The cracks are formed on the plastered surface due to extreme temperature variations.
c. The plastering surface required more time to setting and drying.
d. Plastering operation is lengthy process.
State various types of POP finishing boards.
1. Plaster wall boards: These boards are of self finish type such as wood veneer.
2. Gypsum lath boards: These boards are of rough type and provide an adhesive grip for plaster finish.
3. Fibrous plaster boards: These are plaster lath boards reinforced with fibre in the form of precast slabs or mouldings.

2. 10 to 12 feet in length and 4 to 6 feet width.
3. Thickness 6mm to 15mm length and width can be adjustable as per order.
