Dams
Dams and retaining walls are used to retain
water and earth pressure respectively. They are also subjected due to direct
and bending stresses. Direct stresses are developed by self-weight of structure
while bending stresses are developed due to retaining pressure. In dams
retaining pressure due to water and in retaining wall due to earth (soil). The
calculations for direct and bending stresses in both cases are same. A slight
difference between in both cases is water pressure and earth pressure.
Analysis for dams is depends on its face. Which mentions as below
