Special Materials (Fibre materials)

-: Special Materials (Fibre materials):-
What are Fibre materials? Or  Definition of fibre materials.
It is small piece of reinforcing material possessing certain properties. It is long, thin, material which may be flat or circular in cross-section.
It is thread like piece of any material.
What are types of Fibre materials?
  1. Jute fibre:
Properties:
i.                     It is 100% bio-degradable and recycled, hence eco friendly.
ii.                   It is natural fibre with silky shine and golden in colour hence it sometime called as golden fibre.
iii.                  It has high tensile strength.
iv.                 Generally circular in cross section.
Uses:
i.                     It used for making sacks and coarse cloth.
ii.                   Making curtains, carpets, chair covering.
iii.                  In construction field it maximally used for curing purpose.

  1. Coir:
Properties:
i.                     It is light in weight, strong, elastic fiber material.
ii.                   High durable.
iii.                  High tensile strength (140-150Mpa).
iv.                 Low thermal conductivity.
v.                   Density. 1.15kg/m3.
Uses:
i.  When mixed with cement mortar, it increase impact and tensile strength.
ii. Fibre reinforcement is used to making panels for vertical load bearing walls, roofing, floors, etc.

  1. Steel fibre:
Properties:
i. More tough and hard.
ii. More elastic and avoid corrosion.
iii. They increase tensile strength of concrete.
Uses:
i. Various types of structures like road pavements, bridges, etc.
ii. For shotcreting.
iii. Precast concrete.
iv. Tunnel lining.

  1. Carbon fibre:
Properties:
i. Chemically inert material.
ii. It has high corrosion resistance.
iii. High tensile strength.
iv. Contain 85% carbon.
Uses:
i. It used for structural cladding and paneling work.
ii. Commonly used in reinforcement in composite member.
iii. It used in RCC concrete.

  1. Glass fibre:
Properties:
i. It has good thermal insulation properties.
ii. Excellent corrosion resistance.
iv.                 High tensile strength.
Uses:
i. Roof sheets.
ii. For interior decoration.
iii. Sound and thermal isulation.
iv. For ceiling.

  1. Asbestos fibre:
Properties:
i. Melt at 1500oC.
ii. Mechanical strength is not high, it vary from 300 to 400kg/cm2.
iii. Weak in acid resistance.
iv. It is good sound, heat and thermal insulation.
Uses:
i. Widely used in electrical engineering.
ii. It used for making boards.
iii. Sound absorption material.
iv. It used for making fire proofing materials.
