Shear Stress (q)
The stress which act parallel to the plane or surface of object is known as ‘Shear Stress’.
It also known as Tangential stress. It denoted as ‘q’ (small alphabet q), ‘τ’(Greek symbol tau) or ‘σt’ (sigma to the base small alphabet t) .
In above fig. q is shear stress which acts parallel to surface of object.
